February 16, 2026

Marianna was born on the second day of the year 1939 in Ashland, KY to Leo and Opal Fox. When she was still young the family moved to Norfolk, VA for work in the wartime shipyards

A blind date in the late fifties with a young NASA scientist led to a sixty-one year marriage to Howard Price. They raised four sons: Leffel (1961), David Jay (1962), Jason and Phillip (1975) and countless dachshunds. Their adventures together led them through eleven moves in four states.

Marianna led a life of devotion: to her family, to her Catholic faith, and to her career.  She was a Kindergarten teacher, a docent at Colonial Williamsburg, and a tour guide in Baltimore. As president of the Junior Woman’s Club of Williamsburg she helped initiate the annual Art on the Square event.  For her second act she completed coursework at University of Cincinnati, New River Community College, and College Misericordia to become a Geriatric Nursing Assistant. She would go on to serve at multiple locations throughout Virginia and Pennsylvania.

She passed away on February 6th, 2026. She is preceded by her husband Howard, her brother David, and her son Jason. She is survived by her sons Leffel (Cheryl), David Jay, Phillip (Emily Jones), her grandchildren Justin (Ashley) and Kaylyn Jackson (Jeff), her great-grandaughter Ellianna, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Marianna will return to Ashland to be laid to rest at noon, February 18th at Ashland Cemetery, following a graveside service conducted by V. Rev. D. Andrew Canon Garner. Donations may be made in her memory to The Alzheimer's Association.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Lazear Funeral Home in Ashland.

I am so sorry, Phillip.  My mom had Alzheimer’s and I know it feels as though you are losing them twice.  I hope you can find comfort in knowing she is free to be her real self now. ❤️

Dear Leffel, David Jay, and Philip,
I was so sorry to hear of your mom’s passing. She was a dear sweet lady that I loved seeing whenever she traveled to Ashland.
My grandmother Tucky and Mama (Sally) were also so very fond of her too. I remember how much they enjoyed each other’s company whenever Marianna and Howard came to visit. It is a precious memory of them all.
I know this is a difficult time for your family.  I am praying God comforts you during this time of grief.
With deepest sympathies and love to you all,

Mary Claire Houser Thomas
