Opal Earlene Spears, age 95, of Ashland, Ky, entered her heavenly home on February 6, 2017 at Doverwood Nursing Home, Fairfield, Ohio. She was born July 25, 1921 in Laynesville, Ky (Floyd Co.) to the late Jerome R. and Cora (Belcher) Damron. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Broadus D. Spears, son Benny J. Spears and three brothers, Gene Damron, Jennings Damron and E.W. Damron. Those left behind to cherish her memory include her son, David “Buck” Spears of Fairfield, Ohio and beloved sister Pauline Amburgey of Ashland, Ky. Additional survivors include loving grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

Earlene had a long, fulfilling life. She was a loving mother, wife, grandmother and great grandmother. Her focus in life was her faith, family and friends. She was a member of Beech Street Christian Church, Ashland, Ky, and to its ministries. She spent her life in Christian fellowship, preparing for the time when she would leave her earthly home to be with the Lord. She is home now!

A private service to celebrate her life will be held Friday, February 10, 2017 at Rose Hill Mausoleum, Ashland, Ky. Lazear Funeral Home will be in charge of burial arrangements. Pastors Jerry Bliffen, Coal Run Church of Christ, and Shane Lockard, Zebulon Church of Christ will officiate. In lieu of flowers, friends and family are encouraged to make contributions to the Beech Street Christian Church Family Life Center, Ashland, Ky or Vitas Healthcare, Cincinnati, Ohio.

The Family wishes to thank the staff at Doverwood Nursing Home and the Vitas Hospice team for their attentive, professional care. They are truly angels here on earth. A special thank you is extended to the Fairfield Church of Christ for ministering to her spiritually.

I have been blessed in many ways in my life, but one of
The greatest of these was being accepted into the fold by
Earline Spears.  I’m so glad that I was able to spend so
much time in the past year getting to know her and hearing
the entertaining stories of her youth!  She had a beautiful
spirit and clearly was devoted to her family, most especially
her son.  In my heart I know that she was very happy that
her son had found love again.  My thoughts and prayers
are with all of her loved ones as you go through this
difficult time. Love, Kathy
